THE OBJECT
A wonderfully unusual circa 1920s folk-art souvenir lady, handmade almost entirely from natural seashells. Her expressive face is delicately painted directly onto shell, framed by an enormous scallop-shell bonnet, while additional shells form her dress, pedestal base, embellishments, and tiny accessories. A faded ribbon bow and wonderfully timeworn chenille arms complete her peculiar little personality.

Shellwork souvenirs were created as keepsakes of seaside travels, transforming treasures gathered from the ocean into whimsical figures and decorative objects. More than a century later, this little lady has survived with all the charming irregularities of something made by hand.
Part antique souvenir, part maritime folk art, she is exactly the sort of curious object that feels as though it has carried a little piece of the sea with it through time.

🖤 CONDITION
Wonderful antique condition with significant age-related character throughout. There is visible discoloration and surface wear to the shells, fading and fraying to the ribbon, aging and wear to the chenille arms, and small irregularities consistent with the handmade construction and considerable age of the piece. Her painted facial details also show age and wear. Please review all photographs closely, as her timeworn condition is an important part of her character.
