THE OBJECT
A diminutive vintage glass powder box crowned with an ornate gold-toned lid and a beautifully detailed portrait miniature.
Against a dark ground, the powdered figure is surrounded by delicate golden flourishes, giving the tiny lid the appearance of a miniature old-world portrait. Beneath it rests a clear fluted glass jar—small enough to sit in the palm of the hand and made for keeping equally small treasures.
Originally a vanity object, it is beautifully suited to rings, charms, herbs, tiny offerings, or other precious odds and ends upon a vanity or altar.
Small, opulent, and wonderfully intimate, it feels like a tiny treasure discovered at the back of The Cabinet.
DETAILS

Approx. 1½" tall × 2¼" wide.
CONDITION
In as-found vintage condition with visible wear and paint loss. There are markings to the portrait, and the metal band around the lid is cracked. The lid sits loosely rather than fitting tightly to the glass jar.
