THE OBJECT
A magnificent antique copper cauldron with a beautifully hammered surface, ornate decorative banding, three raised feet, and a sweeping metal handle.
Years of age have transformed the copper into a rich landscape of warm tones, darkened patina, and areas of verdigris, emphasizing the hand-worked character of the vessel. Substantial in scale and wonderfully imperfect, it has the presence of an old working object that has survived long enough to begin another life.
No longer watertight, the cauldron lends itself beautifully to dry botanicals, ritual tools, offerings, or simply as a commanding object upon an altar or within The Cabinet.
DETAILS
Hammered copper with metal handle and three raised feet.
Approx. 6" wide at the opening.
Approx. 10" tall with handle raised; 6¼" tall excluding handle.
CONDITION
In as-found antique condition with substantial patina, corrosion, surface wear, and imperfections throughout.
Corrosion to the bottom means the vessel is no longer watertight and should not be used to hold liquids. Its aged surface has been left intact and is an important part of the character of the piece.
Please examine the photographs closely, as they form part of the condition description.
