THE OBJECT
A vintage pair of ceramic vases bearing the distinctive five-pointed emblem of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Masonic-affiliated fraternal organization established in the nineteenth century.
Each colored point of the star represents one of five biblical heroines—Adah, Ruth, Esther, Martha, and Electa—and the virtues of fidelity, constancy, loyalty, faith, and love. Finished in white ceramic with colored enamel and gold detailing, these small vessels are fascinating surviving pieces of American fraternal material culture.
Beautiful displayed individually or gathered among Masonic, esoteric, and historical objects.
