1933 Celluloid Child's Pocket Prayer Book

THE OBJECT

A charming miniature Catholic prayer book dating to 1933, created especially for a child and small enough to be carried in a pocket.

Behind its celluloid cover is a tiny collection of prayers and richly illustrated devotional pages, including religious imagery that remains beautifully vivid nearly a century later. The heavily worn binding and loosened pages speak to a book that was handled and used rather than simply preserved.

Small devotional objects like this have an intimacy all their own—made to be held close, carried, and returned to again and again.
